Sagradia Familia is a church in Barcelona, Spain designed by famed architect Antoni Gaudí. Construction on Sagradia Familia began in 1882 with completion date set for 2026. Despite still being constructed Sagradia Familia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sagradia Familia’s distinct design comes from Antoni Gaudi’s architectural design style of combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau designs.
Visiting Sagradia Familia is a must when in Barcelona with its design so unique finding another church building so striking would be rare. It is highly advisable to book tickets beforehand as the queues can be extremely long. The prices vary between €14 and €24 depending on the different options such as audio guides and going up one of the towers. Opening times in October to March are from 9.00 to 18.00 and 9.00 to 20.00 from April to September.
The exterior currently has 8 towers, 4 on each facade with Antoni Gaudí planning 18 towers (12 symbolising the apostles, 4 to the evangelists, and 2 more dedicated to Mary and Jesus).
Sagrada Familia Interior
The interior of the church has five aisles and the columns designed by Antoni Gaudí are meant to look like trees and branches giving it its unique curvaceous look which is mirrored in many of Gaudi’s designs. When purchasing tickets there is an option to go up one of the towers by elevator and worth the extra cost as the views of Barcelona are spectacular.

Visiting Sagrada Familia was a highlight of my visit to Barcelona and is highly recommended. It’s unique design is something that will not be seen elswhere.
