English Bay in Vancouver, Canada, is a popular beach for swimming and sunset watching. English Bay hosts the Celebration of Light fireworks competition which is held every summer. English Bay also hosts the annual Polar Bear Swim. English Bay had Vancouver’s first lifeguard, Joe Fortes. In April, 2015, English Bay was the site of a oil leak from a cargo ship near the bay. Toxic water washed up on English Bay with the beach opening ten days after the oil spill.
