If you visit Barcelona, it’s hard not to miss the passion the locals have for their football club, FC Barcelona. To understand this, a visit to the home ground stadium of FC Barcelona, called Camp Nou, is recommended. The Camp Nou stadium has a capacity of 99,786 and is the largest in Europe, as of 2013. The FC Barcelona Stadium Tour is called the Camp Nou Experience and is a self guided tour of FC Barcelona the stadium. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance of the museum and are priced at €23. An audio guide is available at an additional cost and I would highly recommend purchasing the audio guide as the museum contains many artifacts including the Barcelona trophy cabinet and will assist in explaining the history of FC Barcelona during the Camp Nou Experience tour.
The Camp Nou Experience tour starts on the first floor in the Camp Nou Museum which contains glass encasing with photographs and artifacts from past and present FC Barcelona players and managers. Players and managers featured include Cruyff, Messi, Maradona, Guardiola and Ronaldinho. There is even a signed shirt from US President Obama. Te encasing all tell a story which is enriched by the audio guide. The Camp Nou Experience Museum also contains all the trophies won by Barcelona since its inception in the Barcelona trophy cabinet. This part of the Camp Nou Museum provides a rich look at the history of FC Barcelona from its inception. It’s a fascinating insight and it’s not hard to understand why it’s one of the the most visited museums in Barcelona.
There is also a multimedia section which is highly interactive. You can experience what its like on match days. With headphones on, you can listen to what the crowd is like when cheering on the home team. My favourite part was a huge touch screen which explains the history of FC Barcelona, with interviews and clips from various players. The FC Barcelona museum also has multiple large screens showing games from FC Barcelona’s most famous wins. The next stop is stepping out into the seating area of the stadium. Here you can sit on a stadium seat and see what its like to sit in a stadium with a capacity of 99,786. The section is the most crowded with people taking photographs of the stadium. The final stop is the club shop where you can purchase replica kits and souvenirs.
The Camp Nou Experience is highly recommended. The FC Barcelona stadium tour provides a wealth of knowledge, even if you are not a FC Barcelona fan like me, it’s well worth the money as FC Barcelona lives up to its slogan, Més que un club, “More than a club”.
